is a part of the island archipelagos of the Kvarner bay in the Adriatic, in the north-western part of Croatia. Together with the old town of Rab, different parts of the island are occupied by seven idyllic posts; Barbat, Banjol, Palit, Kampor, Mundanije, Supetarska Draga and Lopar. It has approximately 9000 inhabitants living mostly of agriculture, fishing, shipbuilding and tourism.
The town of Rab has a long history. It is first mentioned in an old roman document where the roman emperor Octavius Augustus proclaims it a Municipium and gives it independence. Soon afterwards the town earns the title of Felix which points to the fact that it was a developed civilised town whose inhabitants enjoyed the running water, baths, temples, streets...
You will enjoy many musical and other performances on the open or closed as well as many galleries and street exhibitions. Out of many historic events the inhabitants have renewed the old chivalric game founded in 1364 and since its renewal in 1995 it has become the central cultural event of the area.
The days of the Middle Ages take place on the days of St Jacob, St Ann and St Christopher. The old town of Rab transforms into a middle-age town. Around 300 members of different associations in costumes are trying to picture the work, food and fun of the middle Ages to the tourists. The festival lasts for three days and happens in the evening hours.
Gastronomy has a long tradition on Rab as well as a wide range of food you can find in restaurants all over the island. The dishes are made of home-bread meat, vegetables and fruit with a special accent on olive oil, lamb, Adriatic fish, seashells...
To those who like an active holiday there are many possibilities of sports and recreation: diving, aqua gun, water skiing, surfing, pedal boats, rent a boat, parachute, jet ski, tennis, beach volley, mini golf, bowling football, basketball, handball, mountain bike motocross, trekking...
In order to satisfy your curiosity to get to know our island we recommend many beautiful and unforgettable excursions: tours around the island and town, panoramic boat excursions, fishing, fish picnic, the nearby national parks; Paklenica, Kornati, Plitvice lakes...
